Frequently asked questions
All the answers about ElectroCAD, the plugins, licenses and support.
Product & modules
Does ElectroCAD only cover electrical diagrams?
No. ElectroCAD covers the 3 areas of the trade: schematics electrical (multi-sheet, cross-references, terminal strips via ElectroSchema), plans (EN 12464-1 luminaire layout, trade layers, working drawings via ElectroBlocs and CALEP), and project file planning (material schedules for quotations, tables of contents, batch PDF export via ElectroCAD Tools). The Ultimate pack combines all 3 areas.
Can you create electrical plans (floor, execution) with ElectroCAD?
Yes. The 1187 ElectroBlocs symbols are automatically inserted on the trade layers (EB_ECL lighting, EB_CFO power, EB_CFA low current, EB_INC fire, EB_TERRE) expected for an execution plan. Combined with CALEP luminaire layout (EN 12464-1) and the auto legend, you produce a complete electrical plan directly in AutoCAD, without switching environments.
What is the difference between the three modules?
ElectroCAD Tools = 50 AutoCAD productivity tools. ElectroBlocs = library of 1187 IEC 60617 symbols with search palette. ElectroSchema = complete electrical diagrams to IEC standards. The Ultimate offer combines all three.
Do my DWG files remain compatible?
Yes, 100%. ElectroCAD uses standard AutoCAD blocks and layers. Your files can be read by anyone, even without ElectroCAD. No proprietary format.
Does it slow AutoCAD down?
No. ElectroCAD is a lightweight plugin that loads only when needed. Commands run only when you call them. No measurable impact on AutoCAD performance.
Does ElectroCAD replace dedicated schematic software?
No — it offers a lighter, integrated alternative. Dedicated software on the market costs 3'600+ CHF / year and requires 3 to 6 months of learning. ElectroCAD integrates into your existing AutoCAD (399-799 CHF / year, immediate onboarding). For standard building electrical projects, ElectroCAD covers 90% of needs.
Compatibility
Which AutoCAD version does ElectroCAD work with?
AutoCAD 2025, 2026 et 2027 (version complète) ainsi qu'AutoCAD LT 2025, 2026 et 2027. Windows 10 et 11. Architecture 64 bits uniquement. Consultez la page Compatibility for more details.
Does ElectroCAD work with AutoCAD LT?
Oui. ElectroCAD est compatible avec AutoCAD LT 2025, 2026 et 2027 : l'installateur détecte votre version LT et installe automatiquement le module adapté, avec les mêmes mises à jour automatiques que sur AutoCAD complet.
What about AutoCAD versions 2020 to 2024?
Non.
Does ElectroCAD run on Mac or Linux?
No. AutoCAD for Mac has no .NET API compatible with the ElectroCAD plugins. Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, is required.
Is installation complicated?
No. A single executable to run. No configuration required. The ElectroCAD ribbon appears automatically in AutoCAD at the next startup.
Licence & pricing
Can I try before buying?
Yes. Free 30-day trial, all features included, no credit card and no commitment.
Is ElectroCAD suitable for small businesses?
Absolutely. That is precisely its strength: a professional tool available from 399 CHF / year, with no heavy investment or lengthy training. Perfect for freelancers, very small businesses and installers.
How does the multi-workstation license work?
Each license = 1 AutoCAD workstation. You can add or remove licenses at any time from your dashboard. Transfers between workstations: 3 per month, with a 24-hour cooldown on a forced remote transfer.
Can I use ElectroCAD offline?
Yes. Offline mode works for 14 days with all features, then 7 days in read-only mode. Only the licence heartbeat (every 5 min when connected) requires an occasional connection.
